Iowa Pacific approved as rail operator

Today, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) for Santa Cruz County authorized the selection of Iowa Pacific Holdings to operate on the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line (Branch Line). The RTC will enter into an administration, coordination and license agreement with Iowa Pacific to conduct freight and passenger rail service as well as maintain the line and provide general commercial insurance. This step will allow the RTC to submit filings with federal agencies and complete other steps to purchase the line as approved by the RTC in 2010. View the full press release here.

Traffic Advisory for May 14th: Amgen Tour of California

The Amgen Tour of California bicycle race is rolling through Santa Cruz County today, and will cause temporary road closures between 1pm and 5:30pm. A list of road closures can be found at the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and a list of disrupted bus routes can be found at SCMTD.

All are invited to attend the second community meeting about the Highway 1 Soquel/Morrissey Auxiliary Lane Project. The primary focus of the meeting will be on plans for the demolition and reconstruction of the La Fonda Bridge, however updates about other project activities will also be available. The meeting will be held at the Multipurpose Room at DeLaveaga Elementary School, 1145 Morrissey Blvd., Santa Cruz, 95065. Barbara Lawrence Art Exhibit at the RTC office until June 29th

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is pleased to announce its new two-month exhibit of paintings by Barbara Lawrence. Barbara’s artwork, characterized by rich color and sensuous paint application, is in many private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Barbara’s art will be available for viewing at the SCCRTC, 1523 Pacific Ave., Santa Cruz, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm through June 29, excluding holidays.
