Land Trust Joins County Rail Trail Bid

The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County has agreed to provide a $2.5 million match to applications being submitted by the County of Santa Cruz to build a Coastal Rail Trail project through Live Oak. The funds will match a $12 million federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant to build 1.7 miles of trail from the San Lorenzo River to 17th Avenue or an Active Transportation Program grant to build the rail trail from 7th to 17th Ave. The project is included as Segment 9 in the RTC’s Master Plan for the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network. For details, view the Land Trust’s press release. The County of Santa Cruz will be notified later this fall if the grants will be successful. The RTC is the lead agency for the Coastal Rail Trail project and is working with local jurisdictions and non-profit partners on implementation.
