Trail Master Plan receives American Trails Planning and Design Award

SCC-RTC-Photo-1[1]American Trails, a national organization dedicated to trails, selected the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Master Plan as an exemplary document that demonstrates outstanding planning, design and implementation of the trail development movement.  The award was presented to the RTC at the 22nd International Trails Symposium on May 19, 2015 in Portland, Oregon. The Master Plan defines the 50-mile Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network and includes a 32-mile rail trail as the system spine and 18 miles of spur trails. The project will span the length of Santa Cruz County and connect to neighborhoods, schools, parks, coastal access areas, transit hubs, commercial centers, and existing trails. The RTC has received three other awards for the Master Plan and has allocated over $5.3M in funding to trail projects.  More projects are in the early development stages.
