The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), headquartered in downtown Santa Cruz, is the regional transportation planning agency created by the State of California in 1972 to carry out transportation responsibilities that cross city-county boundaries in Santa Cruz County.

The RTC is responsible for regional transportation planning, policy and funding decisions for all travel modes. The RTC works to make our transportation system convenient, reliable, safe and efficient, while promoting long-term sustainability and a full range of travel choices.

The RTC employs a professional planning and administrative staff to carry out the goals and projects of the agency.

Engineering Intern (Open until filled-Salary Updated (9/18/2023))

Under the supervision of the Associate Engineer and the daily direction of senior staff, the Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting staff with entry level tasks in the office and field. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: perform entry level engineering fieldwork; participate in field activities at project sites to take measurements, collect data, take photos and record observations; enter data and create reports in ArcGIS; gather, compile, analyze and input data; prepare spreadsheets, charts and graphs to document, report and analyze transportation information; convey technical information utilizing clear verbal and written skills; write correspondence and text for reports.

Transportation Planning Intern (Open until filled)

The role of an intern is to assist staff with entry level tasks in the office and field. The intern will work on a range of bike, pedestrian, transit, trail, highway, and other transportation planning projects and programs. These efforts are completed under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Planners and the daily direction of other senior staff, the Transportation Planning Intern will be organized and interested in learning more about and assisting with transportation planning.

Transportation Planner I, II or III (Position was filled 6/13/2022)

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the daily direction of senior staff, the Transportation Planning Planner I is responsible for assisting Transportation Planners in the implementation of the programs and projects of the Regional Transportation Commission on a variety of transportation planning projects for Santa Cruz County.

Transportation  Planning Technician (Position was filled  on 4/4/2022)

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the daily direction of senior staff, the Transportation Planning Technician is responsible for assisting Transportation Planners in the implementation of the programs and projects of the Regional Transportation Commission.  In addition, the Transportation Planning Technician will perform routine transportation planning and office duties.

Two Full-Time Positions as Junior Transportation Engineer, Assistant Transportation Engineer, Transportation Engineer, or Associate Transportation Engineer (Positions filled 12/2021). One position filled at the Junior level and one at the Associate level.

Under supervision and direction, prepares, manages, and conducts complex and professional transportation engineering and public works duties in the field and office including for structures, drainage, railway facilities, roadways, highways, bikeways, walkways and intersections; responsible for project management and delivery; performs complex transportation engineering analyses, studies and other related work as is required, assists with carrying out tasks needed for the successful operation of the preventative maintenance program and delivers infrastructure repair projects along the SCBRL corridor.

Administrative Assistant  III (Positions were filled 11/2021)

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Budget, the Accounting Technician performs a variety of professional activities designed to provide accounting support services such as: Coordinates fiscal transactions, information, procedures and other related activities with staff and other agencies/special districts in areas such as tax revenues, claims, contracts, invoices, fixed assets; maintains a variety of fiscal records such as complex ledgers, journals, trusts, control sheets, computer data and other documents; maintenance of such records include the accurate posting, recording, balancing, adjusting and reconciling of figures, data or transactions.

Accounting Technician Part-Time (20 hours per week) Position filled 9/2021
Under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Budget, the Accounting Technician performs a variety of professional activities designed to provide accounting support services such as: Coordinates fiscal transactions, information, procedures and other related activities with staff and other agencies/special districts in areas such as tax revenues, claims, contracts, invoices, fixed assets; maintains a variety of fiscal records such as complex ledgers, journals, trusts, control sheets, computer data and other documents; maintenance of such records include the accurate posting, recording, balancing, adjusting and reconciling of figures, data or transactions.

Administrative Assistant II or III (Positions were filled 03/2020)

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing office support to RTC planners, managers and the Executive Director; the administrative assistant performs responsible, confidential, and complex secretarial work, information gathering, information preparation, and other related work as required. The Administrative Assistant II is the journey-level and the Administrative Assistant III is the advanced level.

Transportation Planning Technician (Positions were filled 12/19)
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director or the Executive Director, the Transportation Planning Technicians are responsible for assisting Transportation Planners in the implementation of the programs and projects of the Regional Transportation Commission.  In addition, the Transportation Planning Technician will perform routine transportation planning and office duties.

Transportation Planner I or II (Positions were filled 12/19)

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Transportation Planners I will perform a variety of task to include: Assist Senior Transportation Planners in the implementation of programs, projects and service contracts of the Regional Transportation Commission; with direction run and maintain on-going non-controversial programs; serve as staff to committee(s); prepare and distribute committee meeting materials; facilitate and coordinate with staff to gather data that will be used to prepare reports/plans that are presented to the board; work with consultants and contractors; perform routine transportation planning and office duties; conduct research and analysis; prepares maps, graphics and reports; may facilitate public meetings for a variety of different projects and other related planning tasks.

Under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer, the Engineering Intern will perform entry level engineering fieldwork; participate in field activities at project sites to take measurements, collect data, take photos and record observations; enter data and create reports in ArcGIS; gather, compile, analyze and input data; prepare spreadsheets, charts and graphs to document, report and analyze transportation information; convey technical information utilizing clear verbal and written skills; write correspondence and text for reports; participate in training activities and actively seek opportunities to contribute to the achievement of RTC goals; reference and understand design manuals, agency standards and procedures; and may assist with other technical analysis, graphics, and mapping depending on abilities.

Director of Finance and Budget
(Position was filled 2/19)

The new Director of Finance and Budget is responsible for overseeing, planning, organizing and directing the financial operation of the SCCRTC.

Executive Director
(Position was filled 12/18)

The new Executive Director must be a results-oriented leader with excellent communication skills, who enjoys facilitating change and working to develop relationships and build consensus.

Accountant II or III
(Position was filled 6/18)

Under general direction of the Fiscal Officer, the Accountant performs difficult, complex and professional accounting and fiscal duties. The Accountant maintains fiscal records; prepares a variety of accounting statistical and narrative reports; and other accounting and fiscal work as required

Engineering Intern

The intern will assist staff with entry level tasks in the office and field.  Duties include but are not limited to: perform engineering fieldwork; participate in field activities and at project sites to take measurements, collect data, take photos and record observations; enter data and create reports in ArcGIS and other duties as assigned.
