Monterey Bay 2035-Moving Forward Workshops

The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) is working together with the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) and other counties on the development of an integrated land use/transportation plan for the Monterey Bay region through the year 2035 – MovingForward Monterey Bay.  There will be a series of collaborative community workshops and an online survey to initiate a regional dialogue about future growth and how future transportation improvements should be prioritized. Attached are flyers (English and Spanish) for all six workshops including two in Santa Cruz County (May 20 in Watsonville and May 23 in Santa Cruz).

According to AMBAG projections, by the year 2035 the tri-county region of Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties will see an increase of more than 150,000 people, 40,000 housing units, and nearly 65,000 jobs. The Sustainable Communities Strategy—a component of this plan—will aim to reduce transportation-generated greenhouse gases and promote new thinking on where we live and how we travel.

At the workshops, you will be able to provide your preferences for how to decrease transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions and accommodate housing and employment growth for the region. For more information about the project or to take the survey, visit

“MovingForward Monterey Bay is about promoting a regional dialogue about who we are, where we are going, and how are we going to get there.  It’s about listening to the people who have a stake in our community and crafting a vision that reflects their desires and their aspirations.”  –Maura Twomey, Executive Director, AMBAG

Please plan to attend these workshops to participate in the community dialogue about the future of this region.  Your help to share this information — so there is as much public involvement as possible — is greatly appreciated.
