RTC Celebrates Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month commemorating the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990.

In honor of the 32nd Disability Pride Month, the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is proud to highlight the wide range of programs and services that the commission works on and provides funding to in order to advance transportation accessibility, mobility, and inclusion for people with disabilities in Santa Cruz County.

The Elderly & Disabled Transportation Advisory Committee (E&D TAC) advises the commission and other transportation agencies on the network of specialized transportation services for seniors and people with disabilities in Santa Cruz County as well as about the transportation needs of these members of our community. Meetings are generally held at 1:30 pm on the second Tuesday of even numbered months and all are welcome to attend. Sign up for e-notifications when agendas are posted to the website by visiting: https://sccrtc.org/about/esubscriptions/. The committee is always looking for new members. Visit the E&D TAC webpage for more information and fill out an application if interested.

The RTC’s Guide to Specialized Transportation Services (Spanish version) for seniors and people with disabilities in Santa Cruz County lists accessible transportation services available in the county including eligibility requirements, hours/schedule, service charges, service area, and more. In addition to its own programs, the RTC provides funding to partner agencies for their various programs that offer accessible transportation services to the local community. These include:

  • METRO ParaCruz: ADA complementary paratransit service that offers accessible door-to-door shared rides for people who are not able to use the bus due to a physical, cognitive, or psychiatric disability. Apply for paratransit service here.
  • Community Bridges Lift Line: Provides 60,000 door-to-door rides a year to seniors and people with disabilities. Services for qualifying residents of Santa Cruz County include: County-wide medical transportation, out-of-county medical transportation, veterans medical transportation, Meals on Wheels Dining Center transportation, Elderday Adult Day Health Care transportation, and Taxi Scrip coupons.
